IT”S NOT ABOUT THE GAME
SIX FOOT SHORT
Six Foot Short
is a hybrid mockumentary set within a regional Victorian football club across two pivotal days: the very first day of the season (when we re-open the club rooms) and finals day.
The film follows Tony, the club’s capable but quietly exasperated operations manager (fictionalised) as he attempts to bring structure and professionalism to a proudly chaotic community institution. Around him, real community members portray heightened versions of themselves: a groundskeeper who cannot stop bogging the mower, canteen matriarchs who hold the club together, a self-appointed physio policing the use of Deep Heat, and committee members endlessly debating the recruitment of a tall ruckman the club never quite seems able to find.
The Office meets The Merger
We never see the game itself. Instead, the film lingers in the spaces around it — the committee room, the canteen, the oval at golden hour — revealing the invisible labour, pride and beautiful absurdity that sustain community sport.
At its heart, Six Foot Short is a comedic love letter to volunteer governance, regional resilience and the people who show up, week after week.
